My Story

My Mom handed me the newspaper. The title read "Rosalind Franklin: The woman behind the double helix." Intrigued by a name I was not familiar with, I read. I read to discover that the famous double helix structure I spent too many biology classes learning about was not discovered by James Watson and Francis Crick but by a woman. A woman who spent her life whole life living in the shadows. A woman who never got the credit for a revolutionary discovery. I knew that Charles Darwin discovered natural selection, I knew that Albert Einstein developed the theory of relativity, but Rosalind Franklin was a mystery to me. I thought about all the other woman who went unrecognized in their field. It made me upset, but I was not willing to sit around and feel sorry for them and myself, I knew I had to do something. I am only in grade 11, but I can make a change, we all can.

Philosophy
